Laid back jazz for art gallery gig?

My band, which consists of Keys, Drums, Bass and guitar are playing at an art gallery opening so we need some instrumental, laid-back, background music to play. The bass player and I are the only ones who can REALLY play jazz properly.

Can any of you wise ones recommend anything? Nothing too hard please. Most of the stuff the bass player and I play is stuff like Four on Six, which isn't very loungy. Maybe a nice slow autumn leaves?

Anyway, need a good amount of stuff so don't hesitate to leave suggestions!

So What seems an obvious choice. Simple renditions of ballads that never deviate too far from the melody. Naima, Black Nile, Smile...

'Autumn Leaves' can be done slow. It was originally a French poem which became a chanson. Listen to the original 'les Feuilles Mortes'.
Nice ballads are 'You don't know what love is', 'The meaning of the blues', 'Angel Eyes', 'Loverman' to name a few with a rather easy form. You could also do a few bossa's or something. Good luck on the gig!

A few ballads I've copied from a beginners' list:

Blue in Green Bb
Body and Soul Ab – Db
In a Sentimental Mood
'Round Midnight
Soul Eyes
Stella by Starlight Bb

A few more good choices in my opinion:

The Girl From Ipanema
There Will Never Be Another You
Satin Doll
Stormy Weather
Summertime

Good luck

For an art gallery gig: beat poetry, bongos, and free form flute.

That is quite a list Jerry! I see you do 'How deep is the ocean' uptempo. I do it as a ballad myself. I'd like to hear your version some time, I'm curious.

Actually, I play it at a medium tempo.
