Question Help plz with Moonlight serenade

Hi there!

I seek for original score of Moonlight serenade, i.e. score by Glenn Miller. But all that I’ve found is Jeff Hest’s arrangement “AS PERFORMED BY GLENN MILLER”. The question is: what happened with Glenn Miller’s one?

Hi Chartum,
for big band you mean? There are some by others too, but maybe this is close to what you are looking for?
http://store.payloadz.com/details/detail_51733.html

I've never ordered there, so I can't tell you anything about their service.
Welcome to the forums btw.
regards, page

Page, thanks a lot! However, question about the original score remains to be seen...

Somewhere in the house (and I do mean somewhere -- 3 moves and a garage full of cardboard boxes!!), I have a set of scores that accompanied the Glenn Miller Story on its UK issue. (Yes I know - that piece of information is as much use as a chocolate coffee pot )

This was at a time when you could get an LP of a film score as well as the scores themselves. So you might want to try searching for tune under the film score (Don't know who the arranger was)

The other thing to try is to approach one of the official GM bands.

There is one in Mainland Europe, one in the UK and one in the US

Hi Chartum, not sure I understand. If you want to actually have the original used paper one, you'll probably have to do what Tenorman said and address to the band. I remember a website of a company that has old scores that are not in print anymore. It was based in the UK, can't come up with their name right now. Libraries sometimes have original scores too. Maybe when they're based at conservatories or something. We have something like that in my country at one special library which has real original showbizz tunes scores from national shows. There might be some place like that where you are too.
I've checked a site with restored original jazzscores but they don't have it. I've found another that claims to have the original score and you can still buy 'copies'. (version 1 is the original one they say) Of course it has been re-notated. Here it is http://www.jazzbandcharts.com/bi-Moonlight-Serenade.htm

Hi Page,
I think that the problem is that after Glenn Miller's death (15/Dec/1944) someone else did arrangements for the various Miller orchestras that popped up. Somewhere around there must be the original band arrangements that were used in the pre 1944 Miller recordings and live sessions

I actually suspect that the scores used for the two Miller films (GM Story and Orchestra Wives) were not the original Miller scores.

I have heard that in some cases, the audience object if an official Miller band varies from the known (i.e. recorded) score, so my suspicion is that the official orchestras use original scores -- just a guess

Ah, I see. Thank you for explaining.

Another option is to check where it is registered.
I have found it at ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) at these nrs:
Work ID: 430088523
ISWC: T0701100540

with this publisher:
EMI ROBBINS CATALOG INC
C/O EMI MUSIC PUBLISHING INC ATTN: AUDREY ASHBY
75 9TH AVE FL 4
NEW YORK, NY 10011 US
(212)492-1200

registered there at nr. 128632966

You (Chartum) could write to them (or call) as well. They'll proabably know if it is still available somewhere.

Hi Page,

I do not really need a used paper copy, and the score on www.jazzbandcharts.com looks exactly like what I search!

Still, I have already written to UK Miller orchestra and probably will write to EMI ROBBINS CATALOG INC.

Thank you very much!
