Brass: What does your mental model look like?

Upcoming book. Brainstruments by Lee Sankey
Very interesting stuff about the mental model of your instrument.

http://brainstruments.com/wp-content...mary-paper.pdf

Howard Levy (worlds greatest harmonica player) sees a piano in his mind when playing the harp.

Gary Burton Vibraphonist sees the keys on his vibraphone glowing.

Myself I see this Dimiharp.tumblr.com (when playing harp)

As a harmonica player I made a couple of presentations of my mental model. They have helped me greatly to clearly see patterns

I have recently started to play the trumpet. But I have yet established a mental model of my instrument.

How does other Brass players mental models work?
Lee mentions in his free summary that 2/3 trumpet players he interviewed strangely did not have a mental model.

He does not mention the third players model.

Thanks for your input

Lee also writes somewhere in the summary that about 85% of the professional players are not aware that they have a mental model. But they realize they do when asked to focus on it.

I have no mental model. When I am improvising I do not visualize anything other than the end of my horn. I try not to allow anything else to interrupt the stream of what I hear internally to what comes out of the horn.
