Buddy Rich's birthday on the 30th. When I first got into jazz, drummer wise I found Philly Jo, Elvin and Tony Williams before Buddy and didn't really see the purpose of checking him out.
I'm glad I did. The progression of jazz drums makes much more sense to me now and Buddy laid down the ground work for modern jazz drumming in many ways.

I made a video tribute to him. Over 20 videos of live perfomances. With Tony Bennett, on the Tonight Show, drum battles and even an appearence on the Muppets. He battled Animal and while Animal was good, maybe even too good, Buddy won.
