Sorry I don't have any info on Hancock or Shorter. I found this youtube video featuring Earnie Watts useful recently. Among other things he talks about some of his guiding principles to create a solid tone and iron out the creases in his technique. I think some of ideas could bridge over to other instruments than saxophone too. |

Hey, you should try reading all the autobiographies. I was extremely inspired and enlightened by Miles Davis autobiography, a book of Coltrane interviews called Coltrane on Coltrane, The Dizzy Gillespie book To be or not to bop, and Wayne Shorter's footprints. But I think that the book I'm reading now, Effortless Mastery, by Kenny Werner really shows a great approach to being honest with yourself, diligent, and progressive in your practicing. Not to mention excited!

A lot of different information on the subject is in Paul Berliner's book Thinking in Jazz.,that I read with great pleasure.
