Verrrrry Urgent indeed!

Splendid!

Finally I got these cds - down with mp3s, original LPs are so expensive and I haven't seen any vinylreissues around.

This, to me, is one of those "time and place" recordings - i.e., a live recording that sort of drops you into another time and place for a while - in this case, a club in Amsterdam in the late '60's, with the legendary Dexter Gordon front and center. I'm not sure why some live records have this effect while others don't. Perhaps it's the uncut introductions, artist banter, the sounds of the audience, etc. A lot of times, it seems they are more obscure records, maybe lacking the polish and sheen of the larger labels. A couple others that come to mind are Horace Silver's Live 1964 and Sonny Rollins' Aix En Provence, both really obscure. Cannonball's Mercy Mercy Mercy: Live at the It Club, while not obscure at all, probably fits the bill, too. I'm sure there are a few others in my collection I'm forgetting, and a lot more I've never heard. Anyone out there relate to what I'm talking about, or have a few favorites of their own?
