Question about current jazz artists out there...
Good morning!
I would like to start off by saying I have been a member of this board for some years and have really benefited from the insight and information here. So for that, thanks to all of you. My jazz preferences are pretty straight forward. Being a Philly guy by birth, the DeFrancesco Brothers and Shirley Scott are towards the top, as well as any and all of the Jazz Messengers, whether on their own or with AB. In the end, anything organ-heavy or hard bop is right in my wheel house. All that said, I am a bit (okay, a lot) ignorant about current artists. So, the question... Which artists out there currently fall into either the really solid organ grinders or more of a driving bop sound? Any and all recommendations are welcome. Cheers, Dan

I'd recommend these:
![]() Larry Goldings Trio - Sweet Science (2002) ![]() Eric Alexander - Don't Follow the Crowd (2011) Funny. I just grabbed these two pix from allmusic.com, and they gave both of these records 4.5 stars. Apparently, they agree with me.

I'm not really a hard bop fan, but these are artists out of that lineage whose artistry I have a great deal of respect for that you might like:
Wallace Roney Terrell Stafford Roy Hargrove Terence Blanchard 80s-90s Donald Harrison There's tons of great jazz being produced these days & I'm sure you'll enjoy tracking down the kind of stuff you enjoy. |
