Finally got my first album out

It's been a while since I last posted here. Mainly because I've been working my behind off trying to get my first album as a leader out for your listening pleasure

If you want to check it out, you can do so (for free!) right here: Pulse - Oceanica

Hope you dig it!

Johan

Thank you. I'm the bass player, but I'll pass your message on to the singer

Thanks Jerry

It's been quite an exhausting journey, but it's all been worth it. Hard to describe the feeling of actually holding it in my hands, but it is a good one to say the least.

great you put out your cd....

personaly, releasing my cd's is incredibly important for me...

i cant really show people my memories of great moments, but, my cd's are my physical referance to exactly what i want to say out here in my music...my cd's is really who i am musicaly...and it is the place i can fully experiment and document my concepts

no matter what leval you are on in the business, you never know what could happen down the line...i had a vynil i released in the early 80's picked up and re released 25 years later....emi corporation recently took one song from one of our cd's and put it on a compilation cd of elza soares...that right there gives great hope and reason to beleive that even after i pass on, my work could still have life

i always got airplay, some i had great sales...hard now, but, still can sell cd's on gigs, and, its amazing how small shops can move cd's inspite getting closed out by the "jazz corp network"

its always a great calling card and way to get gigs...

its hard these days to figure out which is more valuable to push my work, cd's or youtube...i love youtube and its the way you are showing us your work also...youtube is showing exactly who we are also and you can directly see the responce of the views

like your brazilian influcence on there

i see you are a bass player

that explains why that one section on "pulse" has the bass and drums locked into a nice aproximation of the real braziian feeling

id like to ask what were your influences to get that feeling?

im taling about the second cut, there is one section that hit a very nice aproximation of the real rio feeling of how they play samba

Yeah, I think youtube is a great promotional tool. I was sort of split between putting up the music on spotify or on youtube. Spotify gives you a tiny bit of money per play, but since people can listen to the full album as easily as owning it, including listening to it on their phones etc, I'm hoping the small extra effort it takes to listen to it on youtube makes people more willing to purchase the album.

Regarding the inspiration to the groove on The Way, 2nd song on the album, I would say the music of Djavan and Elis Regina. Some songs on the album have a more "american" samba groove, but I wanted at least one track to have a more traditional style. Had to work a bit with the drummer, who had never played that style before, but I think he pulled it off really well.

One of the biggest challenges to actually completing this album was finding musicians that were able to play such a wide variety of grooves and styles, as it is a pretty eclectic collection of songs.

jhl really great you define the differance between "the american samba" and the rio type samba...that means you have done extra reseach and i value a bass player that knows that groove

"Elis" great, that would be the late great samba bass innovator, luizao maia and if it was djavan, it could have been luizao or his nephew artur maia, or someone who was influenced by luizao...its just fantastic how these grooves are innovated and then integrated into the music...

glad you hipped your drummer, once you got it, then its always at your fingertips

i value eclectism, and musicians that can come from differant styles, i dont like to see one style all night long

nice singer , too, who is it? good luck on your cd

Yeah, Luizao Maia is one of my favourite bass players. That's how I want to play Brazilian music

The singer's name is Gustav Karlström, son of jazz singer Elisabeth Kontomanou. To me he is one of the best singers I've ever heard. He'll be coming out with his own material soon, and it is killing. His music is like a mix between Donnie Hathaway, Monk, James Brown and Prokofiev. Heavy stuff

Thanks for your well-wishes and happy holidays!

Man that first one sounds so, so much like Captain Marvel off of Chick Corea's Light as a Feather.
