Oh yeah. Henderson was a monster. Love that sandpaper-rough tone that he got back then -- like on "El Barrio" from Inner Urge.

NP:

Jimmy Smith - Standards
This is much more laid-back than a typical Jimmy Smith set. Kenny Burrell is prominently featured, and he sounds great.

No doubt - and "Inner Urge" may well have been his masterwork as a leader (although it's not an easy call, imo)

Chico Freeman - Peaceful Heart, Gentle Spirit
This is a helluva good record. I just picked it up earlier this year. Listened to it maybe three or four times. But it's hititing me over the noggin tonight. Wow.

The rhythm section on this one? Kenny Kirkland, Buster Williams, & Billy Hart. Damn.

I love finding "new to me" stuff like this!!! This record was released in 1980. And Chico Freeman is WAY underappreciated today. If you stumble across this one in the used vinyl bins, GET IT!

More Chico:

Chico Freeman - The Pied Piper

The Leaders - Mudfoot

Herb Wong's Black Hawk label put out some superb records back in the 80's. Too bad it went belly-up so fast.
