These three are excellent. The others, which I haven't heard, look interesting too.

Although my mother has an Aiwa deck, I don't want to risk the lps on it as I don't know what condition the needle is in.

So I am just going to have to sweat it out until 5th January

A stone-cold classic! One of Monk's very best, I think.

Yes, you can imagine I'm very please with this
My new years resolution was to focus more on buying vinyl from a collecting / good quality sound pressing point of view (and not the "buying all the cheap reissues that come out lately but have very bad sound quality most of time" point of view). Buying less, enjoying it more will be the adagium for 2013

Three recent purchases:

Archie Shepp - Attica Blues
Jef Gilson & Hal Singer - Soul of Africa
Graham Collier Music - Mosaics

All good but especially liked the Graham Collier - a new discovery for me (thanks to the Brit Jazz Reissues thread here!).

JBs Record Shop Raid

I got a phone call from the good guys at JBs record shop in Hanway street, that there were some new jazz records in that I might be interested in. So, took out a second mortgage and went for it.

Fair number of artists, I'm sure most of the US guys won't have heard of, but I pick up any Swedish Jazz I can -- just a pity it is not marketed more outside of Sweden

Playboys -- Chet Baker and Art Pepper -- Pacific Records 1957

Time Square -- Gary Burton, Steve Swallow, Roy Haynes, Tiger Okoshi -- ECM 1978

Don Byas On 52nd Street -- Don Byas -- Realm 1944-46

One Morning In May -- Ove Lind Quartet -- Phontastic 1975

Dinah -- Bengt Hallbergs Trio -- Sonora ?

Lionel Hampton's European Concert 1953 -- IAJRC

Wave -- Antonio Carlos Jobim -- A&M Records 1967

Jazz Pa Svenska (Jazz from Sweden?) -- Jan Johansson & Georg Riedel -- Megafon 1962 - 1964

Jazz In Studio Nine -- Markku Johansson Sextet -- Bluebell 1981

Lee Konitz -- Lee Konitz with Hans Koller, Lars Gullin and others -- Swingtime 1956

Vic Lewis Jam Sessions Vol 7 -- Vic Lewis Orchestra -- Harlequin 1948-1954

Under The Jasmin Tree -- Modern Jazz Quartet -- Apple 1968

Barrelhouse Stomp -- Johnny Otis And His Orchestra -- Jukebox Lil 1946 - 1951

Bird Flies With The Herd / Clifford Brown Golden Broadcast -- Main Man records 1945

The Band That Never Was -- Gene Roland band With Charlie Parker -- Spotlite 1948-1950

Rollins Plays For Bird -- Sonny Rollins Quintet -- OJC ?

Tapestries (Double LP)-- Claude Thornhill Orchestra -- Affinity 1937 - 1947

Franklin Mint Greatest Jazz Recordings Of All Time LPs 85-88

Non Jazz
All Our Own Work --Sandy Denny and the Strawbs from 1968

Apparently a Swedish guy walked into the shop -- he was moving back to Sweden and didn't want to take his Vinyl back, so he off-loaded it there.

If anyone in the London area likes Sun Ra there are about 10 albums there at the moment.

Bengt Hallberg trio on the deck at the moment -- sort of Oscar Peterson ish

I noticed that hunting on ebay for good quality pressings can easily become very addictive

My trophy's from the last few weeks (excluding the Monk's Dream, I allready mentioned). Mostly records I already have on cheap re-issues, and some albums that are new in the collection:

Miles Davis - Miles Smiles (Columbia, U.S. 2-eye pressing)

Miles Davis - Nefertiti (Columbia, U.S. 2-eye pressing)

Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage (Blue Note, Liberty UA pressing)

Lee Morgan - Search for the New Land (Blue Note Japan, Toshiba pressing)

Jackie McLean - One Step Beyond (Blue Note Japan, King pressing)
