I don't listen to much Joni Mitchell but rate this as one of her best.

Yep, she kills it. In truth, there aren't many straight-up country artists out there who knock me out, but the ones that do seem to have that intangible thing DeMent has - i.e, that honest . . . I don't know . . . conviction (?) (sidenote: I know she's often classified as "folk," but this album is pretty much country through and through, I think). Anyway, I listened to it again earlier, and it knocked me out all over again. Have you heard her new release?
Last played - an old personal favorite: ![]() This was one of the first albums I owned when I started getting into decent music, which wasn't until I was probably late in college. Before that, I was too poor to buy music, and hadn't really been exposed to much as a kid other than what was on the radio. Anyway, my brother started working at a record store, and began feeding me some different kinds of stuff, usually as a gift for my birthday or Christmas or whatever. Somewhere along the line, he gave me this one, which I still own. A great album, and pretty remarkable sound, too, for a first generation cd.

What a wonderful record!
I no longer have the LP but am hoping to get hold of a copy on CD someday soon. ![]() Old Fashioned Love - John Fahey & His Orchestra About half this 1975 album is acoustic guitar duets (John & Woody Mann). The other half is recorded with a Band (Orchestra) and sounds very similar to Ry Cooder's "Jazz". Orchestra Musicians Woodrow Mann (Guitar), Jack Feierman (Trumpet), Britt Woodman (Trombone), Ira Westley (Tuba), John Rotella (Alto), Joe Darensbourg (Clarinet), Bobby Bruce (Violin), Allan Reuss (Guitar), Dick Cary (Piano) & Nick Fatool (Drums) |
