From the Amazon editorial review....

"LIVE IN EUROPE 1969 lives up to the Miles Davis Bootleg Series mission of presenting live performances that are previously unreleased, have previously only been bootlegged, or are very rare. This new set is the first collection of Miles's Third Great Quintet, the "Lost" Band of 1968-1970 with Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, and Jack DeJohnette at their peak (they were never recorded in the studio). The album captures the short-lived quintet in three separate concert settings, starting with two full-length (one hour-plus) sets at the Antibes Jazz Festival in France, in Stockholm as part of "The Newport Jazz Festival In Europe," and completed with a stunning 46-minute performance at the Berlin Philharmonie, filmed in color."

Amazon (UK) now saying This title will be released on February 4, 2013, which puts it back about a week. I think the original price they were quoting has dropped a good bit too.

Amazon (US) still saying This title will be released on January 29, 2013.

All we can hope is that the sound quality is good. Recent bootlegs from this period, from Berlin and Copenhagen have pretty muddy sound and the listening experience is somewhat painful. However, the Sony releases form the 1967 concerts were fantastic. Hope we get more of the same.

Cheers, Robert

received recently. before I review, I'll at least post here to let folks know how the sound is. I scanned one disc and while it seemed a little thin-sounding, it was certainly clear. But I was also distracted, so could be wrong. WIll post in a couple days.

CD 1 was released as "It's About That Time" on the Jazz Door label ( although it says it was recorded at Montreux), and I think the sound is more than fine. The music is great.

I always suggest the Miles Ahead website, which is dutifully maintained by Peter Losin, to anyone who has any questions about any Mies Davis recording.

FYI, Jazz Door is a bootleg label that has sold audio rips from laserdiscs and dvds as "legitimate" product, but which is not.

Just an FYI. Pat Metheny was known, if finding any with him on 'em in a bricks and mortar store, to remove them (they released an audio rip of the laserdisc of his show with DeJOhnette, Holland & Hancock at the Melon Jazz Fest in 1990, the tour in support of DeJohnette's Parallel Realities)...

Yes, I personally witnessed one of his "rant and raves" in the jazz department at the old Tower down at 4th and Broadway in Greenwich Village. It was an interesting sight, to say the least. Left all of the employees shocked as Pat marched out of there threatening to sue Tower. I can't say that I blamed him. I'd estimate that at least 30% of the product Tower stocked were bootlegs. However, a more reasonable approach might have been to take aim at the countless distributors who were illegally importing such nefarious product into the country. Back then (in the early to mid 90s), there were just too many brick and mortars in NYC alone to allow his chosen methodology to have a chance at making even the smallest difference.

True, but I can understand his frustration. The number if labels doing this is surprising, and the reason most continue to exist us because the effort, both time and financially, to stop them is not insignificant.

They also hide under the Euro copyright laws. See the "Fresh Sound" thread.

Btw, the sound on that legit Lost Quintet Juan Les Pins 7/25/69 cd I site above is just so-so. Hope it sounds better in the new bootleg series set.

I bought this set while it was on sale, but it's taken it 6 weeks to reach me. If this is a bootleg release they're certainly gone to a lot of trouble. It's a nice digipac, and comes with a poster which doubles on the backside with a lengthy article. The spine of the digipac says "Columbia/Legacy", which means they either have big balls, or it's legit.

Is the music worth checking out? I'm on a tight budget, but it is Miles...
