Perhaps we should change the thread title to Jazz on BBC4 which will get flagged on Google. It may lead their researchers here

Jackie - if it's OK with you, I can change the title - just say the word

No problem with that Mr Tenorman.

..........plus any time I try to find 'Jazz on TV' using the 'search' bottom, I always get is a 'Fatal Error' message instead, so hopefully a new title will sort that out too.

Jazz on BBC4

Name change done.

Lets hope that the BBC researchers find it, accept our thanks and tell the powers that be that there are a whole load of people out here who want to see these old Jazz programmes.

Now all we need is Jazz625 the complete DVD set

Hear! Hear!

I do recall times when jazz was shown on terrestrial stations. C4 showing a doc on the Art Ensemble, for instance. Shock!

BBC4 are doing an excellent job in airing shows from the BBC2 archive. We should take the time to email them and encourage more to be aired.
Also on tonight (11th Apr)

11.15 - 12.15' ~ Smokey Dives'
A programme about the rise of Jazz music in post war Britain.

Some more programmes lined up for Friday 17th April by BBC 4:

9.00 - 10.25PM ~ Storyville:The Jazz Baroness

Billed as Jazz...............

Friday Night 24th July 2009

22:30 – 23:20: Madeleine Peyroux: Somethin' Grand

Documentary tracing the childhood and career of Madeleine Peyroux, whose solo albums have steadily established her as a compelling if elusive chanteuse. Peyroux is an American of French descent whose subtle phrasing harks back to classic queens of heartache like Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Patsy Cline. She spent her early years in Brooklyn before moving to Paris with her mother.

23:20 – 00:40: Madeleine Peyroux: Live in Los Angeles

Concert filmed in Los Angeles in a club setting in January 2009 which captures jazz chanteuse Madeleine Peyroux and a small band debuting songs from her first self-penned collection and fourth solo album, Bare Bones. The set also features covers she has performed throughout her career, including classic songs by Leonard Cohen, Edith Piaf, Serge Gainsbourg and Bob Dylan.

My future wife and I when in our late teens, joined Ronnie Scott's first club in Gerrard Street in 1959, when it opened. It was in the cellar below a café
Annual membership was 7/6d that's about 37p. As we were "shacked up" in a flat in Soho, we could go there most evenings as it was free and warmer than our flat! We had single figure membership numbers.
Ronnie was also quite a comedian, one of his jokes was to announce a competition. "First prize, a week in Manchester!" "Second prize, two weeks in Manchester!" The memory still makes me smile as although we never won the competition, we've lived in south Manchester for forty years. We've never considered going back "down south."
