A Few Pictures I Took Today

I'm still a huge fan of the Sigma DP2M camera. I like it so much I'm pre ordering the DP3M that comes out next month.

Here is a great 15 minute video that puts this little camera up against the beast of the Nikon D800.

$1K vs $4K plus lenses....

It's a real fun video to watch too.

A couple I took herein in Boise on Tuesday, after a few inches of snow Monday night. A couple hours earlier or later and I think I could have done better, but I did kind of like how these two turned out.

.5 Baked you are right, earlier or later, when the light will give a better atmosphere/mood to the shot. That is the dedication which some photographers have to undertake, in order to achieve the results they are after.
At least you are keeping your hand in, and thinking about it. I like the way your shots have turned out. You do what you have to do. Without labouring the point, have you thought about Photoshop? (Apologies if this touches a nerve).

No worries, Pope. It doesn't touch a nerve, and I'm not sensitive about constructive criticism. Truth is, I'm simply not serious enough about photography to take myself too . . . well . . . seriously. Mostly, I'm just a hack who likes to snap shots now and again.

I have been giving some thought to PS, though, lately, or something akin to it. I would like to be able to do some more advanced editing, and also some stitching. The landscape above was cropped, not stitched. I think I could do much better panoramas if I had some decent editing software. Also, I've been thinking of doing some art-type stuff using photographs -- i.e., some image-transfer type stuff. I have some pretty specific ideas in mind, but will need to be able to do more with the photos than I presently can in iPhoto.

Great Pics 1/2 Baked; they have that 'being there' kind of feel and look ideal to paint too.

Dude, these are nice. The second one in particular. Yes, I'm sure you can most likely get some really cool shots if you wait and observe how light may fall there before the suns sets, or early in the morning? Should make for even cooler shot(s). Do it 1/2! Do it! I'd love to see.

Thanks, all – ‘appreciate the feedback. Ian – ‘will definitely snap a few more skyline shots. The Boise Foothills are pretty photogenic – especially in the evening, when the sun casts shadows up there and lights up the buildings downtown. The hills also change colors throughout the year: snow in the winter, obviously (although usually not all the way down to the the valley floor); then they turn green for a stretch in the Spring, making it look at bit like Ireland or Scotland, before turning gold in the summer, then more yellow/brown. In the summer and fall, in the evening, the sun turns them amber with tons of interesting shadows – and they sometimes appear to be glowing. The above shot is basically looking due north, so there is a natural southern exposure – better in the evening than in the morning due to sun angles, etc. Anyway, I often find myself wishing I had my camera and a few spare minutes to get where I need to go to catch some of those views, but finding time somehow always proves difficult. I need to make more of an effort.

I work in the Kensington area; these were taken near high street Kensington/K. palace area and the last two in a Haymarket/Regent Street clothes shop...
