The LCD-2 is a phenomenal headphone! It's been through several revisions though. Tim, do you know which revision yours may be?

Also this is currently Audez'e's top model:

I use AKG 501. One of the best bang for the money ever. Especially when you listen to acoustic jazz as I do. You just need decent source(cd's, flac, etc) and good dac - amp combination. I bought second pair for about 100$ just before they were discontinued .
In today's world of headphones it is close to nothing.

Hi David,

I have the LCD-2 rev 1 I believe. I purchased them just before the released rev 2, and to be honest I'm so happy with the ones I have that I couldn't be bothered with seeing if I could exchange them for rev 2. Mine have the metal headband, no leather, and it doesn't particularly bother me. I haven't heard the LCD-3's. But they are out of my league price wise. Besides, I love my LCD-2's, and there I'd rather use that money working on filling out my collection of Music Matters Blue Notes.

What version do you have?

Miles Davis

Here's a fantastic deal: the Miles Davis Jazz Tribute IEM's for $149.99 & I found a code -- monstervday12 -- that takes another $20 bucks off 'em. Enjoy.

Edit: Code expired today, but rest of the deal is still on.

I have found the best of both worlds.

I did a national review recently for a set of earbuds that gave me awesome sound and incredible isolation. check out my review of these earbuds, I am not selling them and make no money off of them. http://chrislowrymusic.com/

Grado SR325is

I use a pair of Grado SR325is exclusively for jazz playback. I invested in these cans a couple years ago, about the same time I started to explore jazz music in depth, and since then they've accumulated a good amount of quality burn-in time and sound incredible (live performances especially). For me it's hard to imagine a better sounding set of headphones for jazz playback.

For the past few months I have been using Denon AH-D7000's ran through a Yulong D100 MKII DAC/HP Amp.

For IEM's I use Vsonic GR07's which are absolutely astounding for the money.

I decided to go with a pair of Shure SRH 940's. They're completely transparent to the music, as they should be.

I have thouse. Thouse headphones are for monitoring/mixing, and they are really good at it. They are "plain" headphones: no frequency is embelished or boost. That's why they are good at it (when you record and mix you want to hear the real thing, not some treated version).

When you hear with that headphones, you can really tell which albums are good recorded/mixing and which not...

That's the other side of it.

What you are experiencing is what I'm talking about. For example, if the album have a buzz or noise, you would hear it a lot. With that headphones you really hear whats going on.

Also, if the audio you are hearing have low or medium bit rate (bad quality), you will definitely notice this, and it would not be a pleasing experience.

Though, some great albums are just awesome to hear.

What I did for a while was just playing with the EQ... that way you can get the album to sound more like in other headphones (boosting or killing frequencies)... the great thing if you hit the sweet spot the album would REALLY sound great... theese are great headphones. It's a lot of work though.

Eventhough I got use to them and I just use them from time to time in my PC.

So, I use them for monitoring and mixing and they are really great, but obviously, I don't recomend them if you just want to hear music. That said, eitherway I think is a good experiencie to hear music withouth the usual embelishment headphones put, and with such clarity.

Well, as I stated in my previous post, at my PC I have Sony MDR 7506

For going out: Koss Porta Pro

Thouse are really great! No cheap at all (at least at my country where we have to import them), but they sound really good, they are confortable to wear, confortable to fold (they fold into really little space), great design and looks, and also a robust built... it you take care of them, they seems to keep going on withouth malfunctioning or breaking. So they worth the money.

I just recently replaced my Sony MDR 7506 headphones with Sennheiser HD 280 -- they are about the same price point as the Sony's. They are a bit bulky but I am much happier with the Sennheiser's. I use them for tracking and sometimes use them for mixing, but in general for recreational listening at home. They sound great. I find them "true", and comfortable -- a much better experience for me than the Sony's.
