music theory iPhone app recommendations

hello everybody!

Apart from iRealBook, there aren't many apps for jazz musicians on the market. As an apple fanatic, i would love to have more of those.
For example, a friend of mine made this:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/compo...459854017?mt=8
composers' handbook is basically a collection of instrument ranges and techniques. very practical for arranging..

do you have any other app recommendations? apps that you can use as a jazz musician? (apart from metronomes, tuners, ...) any good ear training apps out there?

I was half awake this morning and purchased the above-referenced app.

Mistake--I was the guinea pig, alas . The developer (his, ahem, "friend") basically took a wiki entry and made it to an app. Basically no functionality, other than bare-bones informational stuff about instrument ranges. The iRealBook and other apps have a ton more functionality than this! This would be ok for a 99 cent app, but $7??? no way.

If he had some more functionality other than a bare bones wiki entry converted to an app, it would be cool. As it is, it's a lazy effort to make an app, at an inflated price.

Plus, it's an iPhone app, not an iPad app. Double lame.

concerning the price: i agree, it's too expensive

concerning the content: i don't agree. the thing is, the stuff written on wikipedia about instrument ranges is quite confusing. especially concerning practical and extended ranges. when writing music, i like to have a offline reference that puts all the instruments together...

Music theory pro has some decent ear training and other tests. There's even an ear training test for tempo, it clicks a quarter note and you have to type in what tempo you think it is. Kind of cool to pass the time. You can also post high scores and see how you're doing compared to others. It's a buck.

Try Mapping Tonal Harmony Pro 4.1

Try MTH 4.1 is a great tool to understand all secondary dominants and functions with a jazz sound bank and most often used scales by function

I'll have to check this out. Is the interface well designed, and is it pretty straightforward? I hate confusing apps with tons of menus and options. Any opinions on the app would be appreciated.

I have it on my iPhone, too. It's very simple and straightforward.

There's a section where it shows you intervals and you name them; one where it shows you chords and you name them; and then there are the ear training sections, which I enjoy. They play scales, chords, intervals, tempos, etc., and you have to know what they are.

I think it's kinda fun and the ear training stuff, in particular, is reasonably helpful.
