Any Brazilian Jazz fans?

I'm a huge Brazilian Jazz fanatic. Love the breezy, warm, groovy sounds of artists like Hermeto Pascoal, Joao Donato, Marcos Valle, Flora Purim, Gal Costa, Airto, Dom Um Romao...

Any other people into Brazilian Jazz here?

im an american living in brazil since 86, coming down from 8 years playin in new york

ive played with lots of incredible brazilian musicians , in rio, recife, florianopolis etc

barosinho, paulo russo, elza soares, luizao maia, rafael vernet, marcelo martins, fanbinho costa, gilson peranzzetta, kiko continentino are just a few of the great musicians i have been lucky to play with....

some of the heavyest part of the brazilian music scene is lost because the media is so unwilling to really show and document the great players...

luizao maia composed some of the greatest brazilian music i ever heard and played with his banda banzai, and never got a chance to record it before he died...few people know of this incredible material

goodrhythms:

That's so cool you played with Elza Soares. I love her. "Amor perfeito" is one of my favourite tracks comin out of Brazil.

No, I'm sorry, I don't know who Gustavo Anacleto is. I will look him up though and also some of the other names you mentioned.

Can I ask what instrument you're playing? Are you featured on any releases I could check out perhaps?

thanks, aron zana

if the clip you are reffering to is "samba legends suite", that is elza soares in the beginning...the second singer is with luizao maia , she is edi machado , two time workd music billboard charting artist, and the last track is gilson peranzzetta....if that is the youtube you are reffering to

im very sorry to say, it is very dificult to get recordings of the material of luizao maia in a full way to see how many he has written

many people have done versions of his "chorinho com x"

i have recorded about 3 of his compositions with him personaly, one thing that was written by someone else that he arranged, which is in that youtube i brought in "samba legends suite"

i recorded two of his compositions with his son and itamar irasseri

and his son , jose luis maia, actualy put out one cd that was an extremly limited edition , of many of his songs

ill get back in here with the exact title and label, but, its very hard to find

i have charts to a few of his songs, im dying to play them with anyone, but its hard to get musicians to come in on it if i dont just organise a session and pay everyone, which i dream of doing...i could actualy re release the songs i have recorded him on and get his son and itamar to record a bunch of the other stuff...but, that would take money i dont have right now...and most important,no infrastucture to really get it out there and heard...what good is doing it when it will sit in a cyber parking lot....if some real power record lable people wanted to show some incredible written music from the real deal side of brazil, that actualy would be historicly valuable, this would be a perfect project to put out on the market with some publicity push...but, they dont have any kind of vision for that right now

it should be done, he is an unbeleivable composer, an innovator of how to play samba on bass, and has recorded and worked with the very cream of brazilian talent...

Yeah, I was clumsily referring to "Samba Legends Suite". Thanks for the info about the video.
