Gene Harris Quartet - Similar Blues Style?

Looking for other artists similar to G. Harris's specific blues style on: "Black and Blue"; Oscar Peterson: "Peace for South Africa"; various Ray Bryant; Ray Brown Trio: "Don't Forget the Blues". Any ideas? Thanks.

I don't know his specific style on those tunes, but look up his record "Gene Harris Trio Plus One", with Stanley Turrentine on sax. Killer record, certainly with some great blues. The live vibe is great too, with some moans and shouts from the audience.

That's a great album. 'Uptown Sop' is such a fun track. I'd also recommend:

I'll have to check that out, for sure. But yeah, Uptown Sop just gets you up again, no matter how sad, mad, or depressed you were. Just the bassline: bum, ba bump ba bu bum, etc Its great.

My drum teacher grew up in Boise, Idaho, going to high school there. At this time, Gene would play every single night at the Hotel Idanha in the downtown. Mr. Harris was in semi-retirement at this time. My drum teacher and his piano player buddy would go down as much as they could to see Gene play. It was him on piano, a guest bassist, and a little drum machine -- there were no regular drummers in the area that Gene could stand. Plus, the thing never varied in tempo, so on fast tunes it must've been a good workout. Anyhow, Tuesdays were "Jam Night." Show up with your axe, and get to sit in with the band! So of course my teacher and all his pals would head down, and by the end of high school, Gene was calling my instructor to play gigs! Also, if he was ever out of town, he'd let my teacher and all his friends play for him... Just imagine what a blast that must have been!
