I've still to hear/get hold of a copy of that one.

It's taken me years catching up with all the gems in Charles Mingus' back cat.

Mingus Moves (remastered and issued by Rhino on Atlantic Jazz Gallery) has just arrived in the post.

As expected it is very impressive.

Oh yeah.

To my ears, CM Presents CM and At Antibes are the two HIGHEST points in Mingus' discography.

But he made so much incredible music. It's ALL worth hearing.

I agree. One of the all-time great composers, to be sure. And his bass playing wasn't too shabby either

Love those pseudo announcements between tunes on this album. The explanation behind the title "All the Things You Could Be Now if Sigmund Freud's Wife Were Your Mother" cracks me up every time!

FWIW, close 2nd for me is Tijuana Moods.

Yes, I believe those early 70s Mingus records are highly underrated. I love Mingus Moves and Changes One and Two.

Good luck catching up, and enjoy the ride!

Mine too! [Although it's hard to say because of Charlie Mariano's playing on MINGUS MINGUS MINGUS MINGUS MINGUS.]

Just wanted to chime in about 'Mingus Presents Mingus' as well... i love seeing it get so much love here... it's my favourite Mingus too and was also the album that for whatever reason made me finally click with Mingus overall. Awesome. In the wider world it doesn't seem to get as much attention, usually overshadowed by Ah Um, Sinner Lady, Picanth etc. I was quite a way into Mingus' discography before i finally got round to his Candid albums.
