Downloadable concerts from NPR

NPR has compiled a group of concerts from 2009 that are available for download. These include Newport Jazz Festival sets by The Bad Plus, the Cedar Walton All-Stars and Hiromi's SonicBloom as well as Village Vanguard sets by the Dave Douglas Quintet, the Terence Blanchard Quintet and the Kurt Rosenwinkel Quartet.

Check out the list of available concerts at:

NPR and the Village Vanguard continue to offer free concerts. I thought this one next week would appeal to AAJ readers:

Few jazz bandleaders are as active — and actively acclaimed — as saxophonist Joe Lovano and trumpeter Dave Douglas. But while they've met from time to time on the bandstand, their brief overlap in the SFJAZZ collective — during a season where the compositions of Wayne Shorter were featured — got them to front a band together. It's a quintet where they share the compositional duties, and the top billing. And it's also a band featuring two up-and-coming musicians in pianist Lawrence Fields and bassist Linda Oh, as well as a drummer they've grown up in music with, Joey Baron.
The Sound Prints Quintet has been touring this year, and will play some U.S. dates when it swings into New York's Village Vanguard for a week. (Both Douglas and Lovano are well acquainted with the place.) WBGO and NPR Music will feature a live concert by the band, broadcast on air and as a video webcast, on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 9 p.m. ET.

There are plenty of free shows to listen to in this archive.

Wow, thanks guys. Also check out Smalls' "Audio Archive." You need to make a membership, but it has TONS of audio for free, and you search by instrument, and then see all of the audio from a particular artist, sorted by the date of the show. Their site is amazingly well organized, with good graphics and the sort. And the audio is great quality.
