luizao wrote so much good music and innovated the way to play samba bass that is the cutting edge

i learned so much from him about what i am suposed to play with his bass as a drummer...after some of our recording sessions, i would listen endlessly to his tracks to get what he is playing...really schooled me

I do love Brazilian jazz, and have had the chance to talk for endless hours and play with a local (Bay Area) Brazilian jazz master, John Neves. He's taught me some basic pandeiro technique, and he is amazing to talk to, with all of these stories and ideas...
