Johnston/Shelton/Mezzacappa/Nordeson - Cylinder

This has been on my wishlist since it came out in 2011 but i've never quite been able to pull the trigger on it. Originally Darren Johnston was the big draw for me but in the last few months i've really gotten into Aram Shelton's music and it's like, whoa, Darren Johnston and Aram Shelton as the frontline on a quartet date? Yes please.

A personal favorite from that year. I love that album.

Steve Kuhn - Life's Magic

Steve Kuhn - The Vanguard Date

These are the original live albums from Kuhn's trio featuring Ron Carter and Al Foster, which reunited 20 years later and released the excellent Live at Birdland. Both have thankfully been reissued by Sunnyside.

The Rivington Project - Trip: This a cooperative effort by drummer George Coleman, Jr., guitarist Victor Magnani and bassist Martin Rizek, with special guest Don Braden on tenor saxophone.

I gotta get that "companion record" to Life's Magic. Like you Justin, I was glad to see it had been reissued.

expecting any day in the mail:

Barry Altschul Trio with Joe Fonda and Jon Irabagon: 3Dom Factor
Jon Irabagon Trio with Peter Brendler and Barry Altschul

and Long Story Short which is:

CD box of the legendary LONG STORY SHORT festival in Wels, Austria 2011.

Peter Brötzmann curated three days of great music by wonderful musicians from all over the world! Not a retrospective but a representation of the contemporary musical spheres that Brötzmann and his comrades are investigating today.

This box documents in 18 performances Brötzmann‘s close ties to the Chicago scene, his inclination to work with Japanese artists, his cultivation of old and new friendships from New York, his faible for African musicians and collaborations with his European friends.

The extensive compilation emphasizes the vitality and variety of Brötzmann's current work and documents a historical moment of the Unlimited-Festival.

I stumbled upon these when I sold some books to a local store.

George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band '87 - Happening Now!, with Joe Henderson, Lee Konitz, Enrico Rava, Kenny Wheeler, Ray Anderson, Howard Johnson, Mike Richmond, Bob Moses and Sheila Jordan, among others. Despite the amazing lineup, I was totally unaware of this album, which is out of print. Although it can only be considered a wasted opportunity that Konitz does not get any solo space, it is hard to fault an album that features all of these musicians.

John Hicks/Cecil McBee/Elvin Jones - Power Trio: I've wanted to hear this album for a while, but it is selling for astronomical prices online. I was delighted to find it for $4.99 locally. The recording quality could be better, but the strength of the music pushes that issue aside. Hicks and McBee are two of the most underrated musicians on their respective instruments, and I love Elvin Jones in a piano trio.

Wow, you lucked out here. I've been looking for this for ages. Lowest I've ever seen it being sold for was $25 for a USED copy! While I've been known to plunk down that much for new cd's, I refuse to pay that for a used one.
