Server and Next Steps for the Forum
Hey everyone,
I'd like to apologize for not being around the last five days. I was traveling with limited access. I haven't read the threads, but I do know All About Jazz the website, All About Jazz the forum, and Jazz Near You were all dead slow. I'm working this morning with the company that hosts our servers to resolve the problem and we will get things back on track shortly. To insulate the forum server from the issues that are currently impacting the two websites, I'd like to suggest that we move the forum to a different hosting service. We can also upgrade the vBulletin software and hopefully it won't cost more than $200. I have no idea how much it will cost to host the forum monthly, but I will find out. Between the cost of the move, the cost of the upgrade and the monthly fee, I'd like to know if the forum community is willing to pick up the tab? I can itemize the costs, but it should be more than affordable if everyone kicks in. And depending on the costs after we move, I can probably cover the hosting bill moving forward. Let me know if you can support the move. |

Hi Michael,
I'm good for $100 towards this upgrade. |

Wow! Homer. Thank you! That is incredibly generous.
I did get a quote yesterday from a well known service provider and it was a little beyond our budget. I'll continue on with the quote gathering. We have three fixed costs (license renewal, move to new server, software upgrade) and one ongoing (monthly hosting fee). |

Is there anyone on the board with experience in upgrading vBulletin and moving vBulletin to a new server?
If so, please contact me. |

i found another hosting service that charges less than half the price of the first service, but i'll need to speak to someone there to make sure we fit within that plan (and rate). |

Amazon has great prices for a bare bones cloud hosting environment if you are willing to go without DR (I would on forum SW).

I found two more services. Let me gather more info, then I'll post again. We've had some website related issues that still require my attention (been a rough week), but I'll come back to the forum move next week. |

I found a really good guy who had been upgrading vBulletin since 1996. He can also move us if necessary.
He offered to do the upgrade in exchange for AAJ banner ad space, but we'll need to pay him something if we want to move the board. He's always busy so I don't have a timetable on the upgrade. |
