Hello fellow musicians and AAJ-ers --
I am the drummer in a San Fransisco Bay Area-based jazz collaborative, and we play local cafe's, restaurants, and private engagements. However, we recently released an album, "Live at Red Rock." It was recorded at Red Rock Coffee Company, and features myself on drums and on one track (Black Orpheus), melodica. Oooh. In short, if you guys would be so kind as to check out the album... We are looking for feedback about the ways we do standards, our original tunes, and our overall vibe. Any comments are HUGELY appreciated. Our main site is here: parhelionjazz.bandcamp.com Thanks, and I'm loving the forum so far! |

Again, I would love for you guys to check this out. We're also planning to do a studio project with a full orchestra, in 19/8 meter. Maybe that'll pop up in "Crowdfunding" in the future.
Comments on the album above would be much, much appreciated.....

Really nice job, Kevin. Just listened to a few songs. You guys seem to be well on your way already, so all I can think of saying right now is keep it up and good luck! Btw we have a very experienced melodica player on the board called jazzman1945, he's also a music educator and he posts regurlarly about the melodica in the M2m section.

Well, as some of you know, I recently teamed up with the pianist in Parhelion to put out a mostly improv-based record, Toccata and Other Bedtime Stories. The first two tracks, Droplets and The Marvelous Adventures of Giorgio Finch, are completely improvised. It was an absolute blast to record these pieces, as I have gotten into improvised music a lot more lately. The last piece and the "title track" is Nathan (the pianist)'s Toccata. It is an amazing 12-minute piece, and takes up about half of the record. I am pretty proud of this music, and would love for you guys to check it out. We are selling a digital download for $3.00 and a physical CD for $5.00. And of course, because it's Bandcamp, you can always stream for free. It also has some great cover artwork by a local artist... For all of you art-o's out there, worth checking out.
Again, thanks so much for supporting independent music. I hope you enjoy, and criticism would be much appreciated. We love to hear it, as it makes us a ton better. Thanks again!
