![]() Finally, I've put my book to bed. It only took 13 months to write and compile this anthology of memoirs, essays, photos, poetry and songs. Read all about it at my web page - IN PURSUIT OF A MELODY. I used the Finale Software to create the leadsheets. Of course, I'm expecting backlash from professional scripters who know how to write music like a wiz. I AM asking that any corrections that need to be made in the book be sent to me in an email, rather than having my name dragged through the mud as an unprofessional notater. I'm sure it'll be just fine. Am I happy? Oh, yes, because I AM one of the few female musicians in the world with a book of 40 songs, written by me since 1978, including "Sweet Return", recorded by Freddie Hubbard and the Kool Jazz All-Stars of 1983, with Joanne Brackeen (p), Lew Tabackin (sax/fl), Roy Haynes (d) and Eddie Gomez (b). I'm trusting that the book will spur sales of the CD by the same title that you can get at www.oldies.com. Here's the link for the PRESS RELEASE. I AM available for book signings and my Women in Jazz Lecture/Concert, when I return from my gig in Shanghai, from May through July 2006. See this page for details - JOAN AND SANDRA IN SHANGHAI, CHINA. The book will be available in May at www.trafford.com/05-0819 I AM grateful for this forum to get the word out. Thanks to ALL THAT JAZZ for this lovely, useful and informative website. Hey, check out the newest song I wrote, while taking a walk on Sunday, April 9, 2006 - BUTTERFLY! Joan Cartwright Is An Excetional Artist Getting Her Due.
I have been a fan of Joan Cartwright for many years and I will be among the first to purchase and use her new book entitled "In Pursuit of a Melody." Joan has a feel for the music and she can translated it WELL to young artist just starting out, or those seasoned artist with a need to do more with the music. A conversation with Joan about music or anything, is like taking a trip around the world. I'm sure that many of us will record and use her music in our concerts and small performances in clubs. Joan has stayed true to the art of jazz, and this is very important to our culture. Thank you Joan for being there for us.
Best Wishes, Sandra Kaye |
