Much better than expected as I find Harris a very frustrating musician in his projects and recordings... especially of late. The instrumentation lends to the success of this album a great deal. But what happened to the fervor and promise of Black Action Figure?

Wow! Solo piano interpetations of Waldron, Hill, Hasaan Ibn Ali, Muhal, Nichols, Cecil Taylor, Sun Ra, Randy Weston, Twardzik, and Tristano. Good stuff...

Anthony Braxton with Muhal Richard Abrams -- "Duets 1976"
I'm beginning to think anything from 1976 is going to be great. The rollicking version here of the "Maple Leaf Rag" is just wonderful.

Yeah, I've got this one on my list of buys. I was a little unsure of the vocals, but nice to know it's holding up.

Playing my newies

The Kora Jazz trio are Djeli Moussa Diawarra, kora, Abdoulaye Diabate, piano and Moussa Cissoko, percussion, with (on part 2) Prince (Mamadou Kone), calabash.

I'm a great fan of Diawarra; I missed these issues (2003 & 2005) because they werent under his own name. Beautiful music! Ravishing!

Nice stuff. Some better than nice, particularly the Rokia Traore.

And following all this up with

My God, it feels good to be listening to a whole evening of newly acquired African music!

Maybe I should learn Norwegian. It might make more sense that way.

Farenheit - Fringe to Fore (his cover of the isley Bros 'Atlantis' is irresistible)

and

Idris Ackamoor - Portrait

That Ghana comp looks interesting. Where'd you get it?
