Found: Ella Fitzgerald
So, we're unpacking some boxes that had sat at my wife's grandmother's house for ten years, and it in is a box set for "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Song Book". It looks like this...
![]() That's the cover of the box, and the cover of individual album vol. 1. All drawings are by Bernard Buffet, and all of them are terribly cool. The rest look like this... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The 40pg booklet wasn't in the box, but we have some places to look for it when we're back in Louisville. It's late, and I'm too tired to inspect the condition of the albums. It was just weird when my wife (who's currently going through boxes of old records and sorting them out) held it up to me and said what do I think about it. I haven't decided what we're going to do with it yet, but I thought it'd be fun to share with the AAJ gang. I'm thinking about framing the album sheaths with the Buffet drawings, and hanging them in my writing room. Cheers. |

Wow, that's really cool. It's great when you get an unexpected surprise like that. The drawings are amazing. I wish that album cover art was still like that.

The CD box set reissue has all of the original artwork, etc...albeit "CD sized". It is a fabulous collection visually and aurally.
