Preety good album, Bluemonkey although I was very fortunate to come up with this album very recently since it's OOP and doesn't come too cheaply. I have an ongoing wishlist over at Ebay's Half.com and received an email that the recording was available from a vendor at an affordable price. As for the album itself, I like the combination of Winchester on vibes and Johnny Hammond Smith on organ. Makes for some interesting back and forth soloing. Clearly though, Nelson is the star here especially on the track "All The Way" which opens for the first 1:40 with Nelson performing solo without the band. If you can somehow track this album down, you should be quite satisfied.

LOL - I happened across it on eBay because I was looking at a tube amp and the same seller had the album. Like you, once I saw it, I had to have it so I bought the amp and the album. I have since seen it on Amazon and just today at musicstack.com (3 or 4 of 'em). The album was released in 1966 and the music is Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (or a real good imitator). I have no other Herb Alpert to compare it to so that's what I'm assuming it is. The tracks on it are as follows:

A Taste of Honey
Lonely Bull
Chili Verde
Spanish Flea
Our Day Will Come
Tijuana Taxi
Green Peppers
El Garbanzo
El Toro
Third Man Theme

It is delightfully campy.

Earl Hines - Once Upon a Time / Cootie Williams - Do Nothing Till You Hear From Cootie

Anyone know the personnel on the Cootie disc? I downloaded it and can't seem to find the info on the web.

I'm pretty sure those are all tunes that were recorded by Herb Alpert & the TJB, so this album might very well be a compilation of their music. If so, you'd think it would say "licensed from A&M Records" somewhere on it. I was hoping it might be a selection of tunes associated with the KFC menu such as "A Chicken Ain't Nothin' But a Bird", "(Do The) Mashed Potato", "Gravy Waltz", "Beans and Cornbread", "Rubber Biscuit", "Save The Bones For Henry Jones", etc.

Googling the name of the producer, George Garabedian, gives a wealth of information. It seems he produced a lot of projects like Tijuana Picnic for various companies as promotional gimmicks. I found a bit of info here this morning http://www.spaceagepop.com/tjb.htm. Apparently the music is played by a clone band and not TJB. That makes it even more of a keeper for me. I remember in my early teenage years being rather naive about marketing ploys and buying a few albums of my favorite bands/singers only to find out they were imitators (I had not learned how to read the fine print). I wish I had kept those albums.
