Herbie Hancock - Stitched up

Hey!

Im trying to figure out the song Stitched up from Herbies album possibilites. I got his licks down, but Im not really sure about the chords, especially the first chord in the break?

Improvising using the A blues scale sounds fine to me, any other suggestions?

Any help with the chord progression and reharms over that would be helpfull, thx alot!

Hello,

Cool song worth checking out! And great, characteristic playing by Hancock on grand piano. Definately some licks worth transcribing!

I suggest the following chords as the main body of Hancock's version:

Intro (played twice):

Chords: A7 ' ' '| B7/A ' ' ' |Dm7/A ' ' '|A (omit 3) ' ' '

then you ask for the chord in the break which is a G13sus4, played from the bottom note: LH: (G-D-F) RH: (A-C-E-G)

Verses:

A7 ' ' '| B7/A ' ' ' |Dm7/A ' ' '|A7 ' ' ' x4

Chorus:

A7 ' G13 ' | D9 ' G13sus | A7 ' G13 ' | D9 ' G13sus --> lick #1
A7 ' G13 ' | D9 ' G13sus | A7 ' G13 ' | D9 ' G13sus --> lick #1

Bridge:

Dm7 ' ' ' | G13 ' ' ' | Cmaj 9 ' ' ' | F maj | Dm7 ' ' ' | G13sus ' ' ' |

The A blues scale works fine on this tune.

I wrote down on paper Herbie's solo on the bridge part. I will see if I can transfer this to Finale and post the solo as a JPG or GIF image here.

Here is my transcription of Hancock's solo (forgot to add the spesific notes of the chords / left hand) on the bridge of Stitched up. Observe the grace notes which adds a bluesy feel to the phrases. The solo may serve as an example on how to make a great sounding work by thinking in simple terms. He sticks to the core material of the chord progressions only adding blue notes. He plays with great feel which is charateristic of the solo.
