stand up bass players?

I am trying to find some good bass playing jazz. I have a 4 month old baby girl and she likes the deep tones. Can anyone suggest a good bass player (traditional jazz). I have a couple Mingus CDs but I would like to add more.

thanks

Mingus is a good start. There's a nice french group calles L'orchestre des contrabasses (six bassplayers) that should provide a good selection of deep sounds.

Thats cool that your exposing your 4 month old to jazz already...I try to play as much as I can for my 10 month old as well. He has a tendency to go for the drums. Every time I play my Keith Jarrett DVD's for him he only pays attention when the focus is on Jack Dejohnette...

As far as bass, its not a bass album, but might wanna check out some of the Bill Evans trio stuff with Scott Lafaro playing bass...Definitely intriguing stuff

Congrats on the baby 2

the low end

Here are a few; Dave Holland-- Richard Davis-- Alex Blake---Cecil Mc Bee--Buster Williams. That should be a pretty good start. I'm actually suprised you haven't gotten more response on this.

Charlie Haden - a superb soloist and his records almost always have his bass as a major feature. His 2 A&M albums, 'Closeness' and 'The Golden Number' are duet albums with plenty of bass prominence.

His recordings with Keith Jarrett also feature him prominently - 'The Survivors Suite' (ECM) and 'Death & The Flower' (Impulse) are highly recommended.

And don’t forget Milt Hinton! There’s loads of his work to be had, but for something easy to find try Branford Marsalis’ Trio Jeepy. What great tone and time!

Ray Drummond has played with purtnear everyone, but his albums as a leader are wonderful:

Excursion
Vignettes
1-2-3-4
Camera In a Bag
The Essence

Excellent time, distinctly personal tone, well-constructed lines. Give a listen...
